Colours & Circles!

The circles didn't work out! so I decided to cut them out & have a play.

I don't like the whole piece! I have decided to cut it into smaller pieces! & have an explore!

Hmmm? 15minutes each are you worth it!!

I wanted to explore using dissolvable fabric as a textile design for fashion feature taking inspirations from earlier samples. The picture isn't very clear, but the black is machine stitch & the circles are my embroidered samples. I should have made the stitch more sparse so it looked lacy rather than a thick whole piece which is what it came out like! Grrr!

Digital Print.

I decided on a final pattern for my digital print, I wanted the fabric to be bold & bright so i decided on a bigger spot print to show off the detail in each circle. I really like the quality of the print & it has, I think a 1950's feel to it, again the picture quality isnt great.

My colour palette has changed quite dramatically since developing my ideas, I also wanted my outcome to be on trend so this has obviously had an impact throughout my development stages. The teal coloured fabric is a colour I am pondering for one of my final outcomes. I wanted a different angle to go at so i have been embroidering straight onto the fabric to see if this adds a different quality that I may want to take advantage of!

After experimenting with different

  • Styles
  • Stitches
  • Colours
  • Sizes
  • Thickness of lines

I decided on two that I prefer, The colour pallette was inspired by the original disolvable fabric sample. Apologies for the picture, the quality from the scanner has for some reason become slightly clouded.

Quick designs of styles/shapes/colours I would maybe think about..

Ive made some simple designs so I can play around with shapes of garments, styles, colours and placement.

I wanted to develop my disolvable fabric embroidery, I did this by changing simple aspects such as colours & sizes. I also experimented with folding the samples to add thickness and layers.

Embroidery inspired by initial ideas!

So.. The 'lace' inspired by my project hasnt been very effective!! as an alternative I have decided to create my own designs but based on actual traditional lace to see if this works. I really like the fan-like pieces to work as a design feature for a fashion garment. The two mis-shapes are two attempts out of a fair few that haven't gone to plan! I still wanted to show them as I really like the texture & concept, but maybe for a different project!

Crisps? hmmm...

Ive also been experimenting with lace making using disolvable fabric & my embrodiery machine. I wanted my 'lace' to be inspired by aspects of my project so you could see the direct link & it wasnt just a random thing. This didnt work out exactly as planned, as the peices totally changed their form when disolved! and yes I do realise they look like a variety of crisps!

Im experimenting with different textures & colours of fabrics to see which type of backgrounds compliment the embrodiery.
I have been experimenting with re-creating the circles from the print into embroideries. There's a vast difference in the quality & appeal when you change aspects, for example stitch size & stitch style. I prefer the cross stitch at present.
Colour plays a major part in my project!

I have also been playing about at pattern/print making.
I have been trying to master the art of embroidery & the PE design software!

Tuesday, 1 April 2008

I decided to purchase the Brother-Innov-is 500 & PE Design to enable me to create my own embroidery designs! It should come this thursday.. Im so excited! the software seems a little intense, so i think it may take a while for me to get to grips with it! There are a limited number of embroidery design softwares out there, which has deemed a problem because I haven't been able to find a Mac'-compatible program!
So I have gone for the Brother PE Design & partitioned my hard-drive!

I am currently experimenting with pattern making, my obsession with spots & dots is deeming quite useful as i think taking a section of a sample like below totally transforms it into a more contemporary piece.
